Malibu Soccer Team Wins Sand Tournament

A group of under 10 boys beat opponents on challenging terrain.

The Malibu AYSO boys under 10 tournament team won its division this past weekend in the 2012 Huntington Beach Sand Tournament.

The team, consisting of players from the previous season’s BU10 Extra team and players from this coming season’s BU11 Extra team, was undefeated in four games. Sand soccer is considered a challenging version of the game, and this is the only 7 vs. 7 sand soccer tournament in the world.

“I am extremely proud of each one of them," Coach Karl Tso said. "They came together as a team and their efforts paid off with a win. Their passion for soccer inspires me to be a better person and coach, and their enthusiasm for each other and the game reminds me of the reason I am doing this."

He said he hopes his coaching will impact these young lives.

"In my own life, the efforts of a single man who selflessly coached me when I was young profoundly altered the course of my life by allowing me to attend college as a scholar athlete," Tso said. "My gratitude to him is my motivation to coach and influence children today, as a way of paying it back. And I hope my coaching might affect a couple of these young men in the same way, allowing them to pass it forward in their own lives.”
